Naturally is the title of a new art exhibition by Anna Þóra Karlsdóttir opening on Saturday, 6th of July at Korpúlfsstaðir.
"Light creeps through a window and rests upon a woolen fleece."
Icelandic wool originates from ancestral sheep brought over during the settlement age. It represents nature, and in it we seek protection and warmth for both the body and soul.
Anna Þóra works with the wool effortlessly organically and naturally. Like most, she instinctively looks towards nature to recreate that feeling of place. For it is in nature that we draw our strength, and if we are open enough, we can find our place within the world and with it, our fundamental connection to all and everything.
Anna's creations take on various forms. Works of wool that rest on the ground rise into the space and are seemingly transformed into spirit. Before our eyes float, contours, colors, and shapes direct our attention towards the heavens and earth. Although some, at first glance, appear bound within their forms, closer inspection reveals untamed qualities without borders of frames.
They permeate space, connect to the environment, and reach, Natural-ly, towards the world outside.
